Amílcar Cariño Charlemagne is a skilled video editor from Santurce, Puerto Rico, specializing in short-form and long-form content, branded media, music videos, narrative films, and documentary storytelling. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, Amílcar uses his visual editing expertise to bring powerful, real-life narratives to the screen, highlighting untold stories that resonate with and inspire audiences. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with renowned clients, including Vice Media, Rada Studios, Amnesty International, PBS, m ss ng p eces, Amazon, hww.work, and MTV.

His editorial work includes the feature documentary Rooted (directed by Bridget Besaw), which follows the transformative journey of Germaine Jenkins as she turns a food desert into an urban farm, showcasing community leadership and sustainable practices. Amílcar also served as the Global Video Editor for Afropunk Media, where he created powerful visual stories that championed progressive change within Black communities.​

 

In addition to his work with Afropunk, Amílcar edited the one-hour special The Arts Interrupted (directed by Akisa Omulepu) for the Emmy Award-winning series Great Performances, a compelling exploration of how arts organizations across the U.S. navigated and survived the pandemic. He also contributed to Facial Recognition Tech and Racist Policing in Brooklyn, NYC, a short film produced by Rada Studios for Amnesty International that investigates the use of AI as a tool of surveillance against Black and Brown communities. Amílcar’s editing expertise also extended to the Vice series Fanatics: The Deep End, where host Alice Hines delves into the diverse and often quirky obsessions of individuals. Most recently, he edited the season premiere of Heritage Heroes Season 3, episode “Vision” (directed by June Kim), which follows Sahra Nguyen, founder of Nguyen Coffee Supply, on her journey as an artist, activist, and storyteller, using her platform to amplify her community and inspire systemic change.

Amílcar holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Telecommunications and Digital Media from the University of Sacred Heart and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Communication and Media Studies from The New School for Public Engagement.
